National Common Entrance Test (NCET)

National Common Entrance Test (NCET) is a national-level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), on behalf of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), a Statutory Body of the Government of India under the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualifying in NCET is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission to 4-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in selected Central/State University/Institutions including IITs, NITs, RIEs, and Government Colleges in India.

In Kerala, top ranked national level renowned institutions like The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut and The Central University of Kerala provide Integrated BEd courses like BSc BEd and BA BEd respectively. Studying at these institutions is a distant dream for many students for which NCET is the best option preferred by lakhs of thousand aspirants in the recent scenario of national level entrance culture especially in our state of Kerala.

“What was the reason behind bringing NCET in India’s Education through the NEP 2020?”

Integrated Teacher Education Programme: “The 4-year integrated B.Ed. will be a dual-major holistic bachelor’s degree, in Education as well as a specialized subject (such as language, history, music, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, economics, art, physical-education, etc.). Beyond the teaching of cutting-edge pedagogy, the teacher education will include a grounding in sociology, history, science, psychology, early childhood care and education, foundational literacy and numeracy, knowledge of India and its values/ethos/art/traditions, and more.” [NEP 2020: 15.5]

Broad features of NCET:

  • Mode of the Test: Computer Based Test (CBT) Test 
  • Pattern: Objective type with Multiple Choice Questions 
  • Medium: 13 languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu)

Syllabus:

  • Language: Language to be tested through Reading Comprehension, Literary Aptitude, and Vocabulary
  • Domain Subject: As per Class 12 syllabus only. 
  • General Test: General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, Logical and Analytical Reasoning Teaching Aptitude: Topics related to the teaching of science, Arts, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Languages, etc.
